The first command that comes with a promise is the command to honor your father and mother. Itâs also the first command that pertains to our relationship with other people. The first 4 commands deal with our relationship with God, and the last 6 deal with our relationships with people. Before God said, âyou shall not kill,â He said, âhonor your father and mother.â Before God said âyou shall not lie,â He said, âhonor your father and mother.â
As Mother Day approaches, we want you to truly honor her, but how do we do that? Does honoring your mother mean buying her flowers or cooking her breakfast? I think we all know itâs more than that. Here are a few ways you can honor your mother the other 364 days of the year.
1. Do what she says. Â
Colossians 3:20 says, âchildren, be obedient to your parents in all things for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.â You canât please God without obeying your parents.
2. Pass on her values.Â
2 Timothy 1:5 âFor I am mindful of the sincere faith within you which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and in your mother Eunice.â  Paul saw certain values in young Timothy that were also present in his mother and grandmother. What an honor for a mother to know her child is caring on her values.
3. Speak well of her.Â
Exodus 21:17 âHe who curses his father and mother shall be put to death.â Now thatâs a strong verse! I think we need to understand that there is never an appropriate occasion to speak bad of your mother. Speak well of her to her. Speak well of her to others.
4. Show her your love.Â
1 John 3:18 âLittle children, let us not love with word or tongue, but in deed and truth.â Find creative ways to show your mom you love her. Actions do speak louder than words.
